Dear Jeff Bradley, At the Center for Photonic and Multiscale Nanomaterials (C-PHOM), a Materials Research Science and Engineering Center funded by the National Science Foundation, we recently hosted our first cohort of High School Research students. We are writing to extend an invitation to students from your school to apply to take part in this exciting research opportunity. Through this year-round hands-on research opportunity, we aim to enhance the recruitment and retention of a diverse student population in science. Please see below for a short description of the program: Spring (1-2 Saturdays): Orientation, training, and matching with laboratory groups Summer: 8-week residential program on UM campus Fall (6 Saturdays): Continued research with UM advisors: students prepare presentations and papers for science fair competitions Winter: Local, regional, and national science fairs Spring: Posters on website We hope you will help us to publicize this opportunity by directing talented students to our website: http://cphom.engin.umich.edu/. You may view our brochure here. In addition, we hope to visit your school to provide additional information to both teachers and students. Please send some available dates & times to Akesha Moore at akeshacw@umich.edu. Thank you very much for your help! Sincerely, Rachel S.
